The Situation

On March 9 2016 the African Development Bank (AfDB) was accredit as a multilateral implementing entity and intermediary to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). This led to the AfDB needing to deliver on its mandate, and scale up the financing for the GCF necessary to address the impacts of Climate Change. The task was to produce an Insight Report into the Private Sector Perspective on the GCF private sector facility, and to facilitate a knowledge sharing seminar to be hosted by the African Development Institute for senior AfDB staff.

The Solution

Working in Association with AME Trade, and packaged as part of the Batoka Gorge Hydro-electric Power Project PPP Capacity Development programme, Africa PPP Advisory Services were tasked with facilitating a one-day capacity development workshop for AfDB staff and helping produce an insight report on the GCF private sector facility.

Our Assistance

In order to produce an Insight Report on the GCF’s private sector facility, we advised on the role and perspective of the private sector on the climate funding barriers for climate project investments, as well as on the requirements for stimulating and catalysing private sector investments in this area. We also facilitated thought leadership sessions and a knowledge sharing seminar on the GCF Private Sector Facility as well as assisting in the development of the training content for the workshop. Presentation materials and the Insight Report were successfully developed by us and approved by the client.
